Choose Your Own Doctor

YOU have the right to choose your own physician! Your agency may pressure you to visit an "Agency Provider," but you can select your own healthcare provider under FECA guidelines. Doctors’ Council 22 physicians are trusted Union specialists in treating federal employees and work-related injuries.

When you are Injured on the Job, PLEASE notify your supervisor immediately. Not reporting timely can possibly cause a denial of claim. Ask your supervisor for OWCP Form CA-1-Federal Employee’s Notice of Traumatic Injury & Claim for Continuation of Pay/Compensation.

In case of an Occupational disease or illness, you should file OWCP Form CA-2-Notice of Occupational Disease & Claim for Compensation. You should also ask for a signed OWCP Form CA-16 Authorized for Examination and/or Treatment Form. Present this to the healthcare provider for guarantee of payment by the agency.

Seek Immediate Medical Care. You should seek immediate care for your injury to prevent additional injury or exacerbation of the original injury. This will also protect your right to pursue compensation under FECA laws as this helps begin the medical documentation process for any future claims.

You have the right to choose your treating physician. The agency might try to persuade you or even force you to see an Agency Provider but remember, YOU do have the right to choose your own medical provider as the physician of record. Submitting all forms and medical documentation. Please make sure to submit all relevant information and all appropriate OWCP Forms and documentation to ensure a successful outcome of your OWCP Claim.

Please continue to see your treating doctor during your OWCP claim. If you stop treatment with your doctor without his/her release or authorization, you are at Risk of having this used as abandonment of treatment and possible denial of your claim.
